Julaybib Project is a non-profit organisation that aims to raise awareness about special needs and disabilities in Muslim communities and Mosques. We welcome parents and carers of children with special needs and disabilities from all communities in Peterborough.
Our vision is a fully inclusive community that provides equal opportunities for everyone.
Our mission is to empower and support children with special needs and disabilities and their parents and carers so that their abilities are celebrated in the community.
So far, we have achieved this by creating a platform to voice issues, share experiences and provide information through professionals and experts by facilitating two-hour fortnightly meetings.
The project was founded by two mums, Natalia Zaman and Amina Giselle Ahmed who have children with special needs and disabilities. The two mums at a Peterborough group for new Muslims quickly became friends as they bonded over the challenges they were facing. They also realised that this was a topic that was taboo and seldom talked about in the Muslim communities. That meant that some so many other parents and carers are facing the same challenges including isolation and mental health issues.
Julaybib Project offers a safe space for other parents who may feel very isolated and anxious. The project is trying to dismantle the mental isolation that parents with special needs go through by providing information and support as we believe that every child deserves to achieve.
The project has received much support from the community and other organisations since it began on 14 February 2023.
